Computer Geeks (technicians) – do you know any good printers and inexpensive?

I need a printer, that scans, copies, and prints well (no paper jams, ink mess, loud noise, etc.) Faxing is okay too. Don’t really need it.
**Only need it for college, jobs, mailing, and emergency (lite personal usage, no business use)**
I only have a laptop. Wireless would be nice.
Laser or Inkjet, which is better? Cannon or HP printers? What is toner?
Welling to pay a little over $100, but under that price would be excellent!

Below is a recent list from a reputable magazine. I’ve had good experiences with HP and Epson. Remember, the cost of the printer itself is the least of your cost issues: those ink cartridges are very expensive, the off-brand replacements are risky and low quality, so you should include the cost of cartridges in your overall review. You can’t get a decent laser printer for the money you are talking about. Read the professional reviews of several models and get a “feel” for the product before you decide. Another good idea is to go to the manufacturer’s site and download the manual – you will end up reading it to make the printer work, and you should take a good look at the software on your computer that will control the printer – is it clear and easy to use?

Even though the initial price of printer may be lower by a few bucks, long term quality, ease of use, reliability and cartridge costs can be important and expensive considerations.
