Hooking up Security Camera?

I found this really expensive camera and i want to hook it up at my house but I’m not sure how to do it. The camera is a sony SSC-DC14. There is 24v power and I don’t know how to get 24v at home and the video output is a cox video and i was wondering if i can just hook that straight to a tv without any box or anything.

Yes you can connect it straight to the TV using one of the AUX composite (yellow) inputs. The materials you will need are as follows:

1. RG-59 or RG-6 coax cable with BNC connectors. Preferably siamese coax cable. Siamese coax cable is regular RG coax with two wire power cable attached to it so that you do not have to use two separate cables – one for video signal and one for power. If siamese coax is not possible, then you need to use two cables. This would be the preferred method but if you do not have experience with this type of cable it can be a bit difficult. Another very simple solution would be to use a pre -made cable with the video and power cable and the BNC connectors all in one. Radio Shack carries these types of cables (first link below) for a very reasonable price. The only reservation with these types of cables is the gauge (thickness) of the power cable, but with what you are trying to do it shouldn’t be a problem.

2. If you do get this type of cable from radio shack, make sure it comes with a BNC to RCA connector or purchase one from radio shack (you will only need one for the tv side connection). The camera has a bnc connector and the tv will have a rca connector.

3. You will need a 24 volt AC power supply. In the past , I have purchased these from radio shack but I could not find it on their website. You could ask your local radio shack and they can probably find it for you.

4. You will probably need to splice in the power cable on both ends (camera and power). Since it is a AC power supply you do not need to worry about polarity (+ and -). Just splice and connect.
