Computer Vision $70.1 Computer vision is the science and technology of machines that see. As a scientific discipline, computer vision is concerned with the theory for building artificial systems that obtain information from images. The image data can take many forms, such as a video sequence, views from multiple cameras, or multidimensional data from a medical scanner. As a technological discipline, computer vision seeks to apply the theories and models of computer vision to the construction of computer vision systems. Examples of applications of computer vision systems include systems for: Controlling processes (e.g. an industrial robot or an autonomous vehicle), detecting events (e.g. for visual surveillance or people counting), organizing information (e.g. for indexing databases of images and image sequences), modeling objects or environments (e.g. industrial inspection, medical image analysis or topographical modeling), interaction (e.g. as the input to a device for computerhuman interaction). Computer vision can also be described as a complement (but not necessarily the opposite) of biological vision. Machine Vision $82.85 Machine vision is the application of computer vision to industry and manufacturing. Whereas computer vision is the general discipline of making computers, machine vision, being an engineering discipline, is interested in digital input/output devices and computer networks to control other manufacturing equipment such as robotic arms and equipment to eject defective products. Machine Vision is a subfield of engineering that is related to computer science, optics, mechanical engineering, and industrial automation. One of the most common applications of Machine Vision is the inspection of manufactured goods such as semiconductor chips, automobiles, food and pharmaceuticals. Just as human inspectors working on assembly lines visually inspect parts to judge the quality of workmanship, so machine vision systems use digital cameras, smart cameras and image processing software to perform similar inspections. Author: Miller, Frederic P./ Vandome, Agnes F./ McBrewster, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 106 Publication Date: 2010/04/26 Language: English Dimensions: 5.98 x 9.01 x 0.25 inches |

Someone is murdering the teenage offspring of the underworld’s most influential Cabals — a circle of families that makes the mob look like amateurs. And none is more powerful than the Cortez Cabal, a faction Paige is intimately acquainted with. Lucas Cortez, the rebel son and unwilling heir, is none other than her boyfriend. But love isn’t blind, and Paige has her eyes wide open as she is drawn into a hunt for an unnatural-born killer. History of Industrial Ecology $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Industrial ecology was popularized in 1989 in a Scientific American article by Robert Frosch and Nicholas E. Gallopoulos. Frosch and Gallopoulos vision was why would not our industrial system behave like an ecosystem, where the wastes of a species may be resource to another species? Why would not the outputs of an industry be the inputs of another, thus reducing use of raw materials, pollution, and saving on waste treatment? A notable example resides in a Danish industrial park in the city of Kalundborg. Here several linkages of byproducts and waste heat can be found between numerous entities such as a large power plant, an oil refinery, a pharmaceutical plant, a plasterboard factory, an enzyme manufacturer, a waste company and the city itself. The Third Industrial Revolution $12.99 The Industrial Revolution, powered by oil and other fossil fuels, is spiraling into a dangerous endgame. The price of gas and food are climbing, unemployment remains high, the housing market has tanked, consumer and government debt is soaring, and the recovery is slowing. Facing the prospect of a second collapse of the global economy, humanity is desperate for a sustainable economic game plan to take us into the future. Here, Jeremy Rifkin explores how Internet technology and renewable energy are merging to create a powerful “Third Industrial Revolution.” He asks us to imagine hundreds of millions of people producing their own green energy in their homes, offices, and factories, and sharing it with each other in an “energy internet,” just like we now create and share information online. Rifkin describes how the five-pillars of the Third Industrial Revolution will create thousands of businesses, millions of jobs, and usher in a fundamental reordering of human relationships, from hierarchical to lateral power, that will impact the way we conduct commerce, govern society, educate our children, and engage in civic life. Rifkin’s vision is already gaining traction in the international community. The European Union Parliament has issued a formal declaration calling for its implementation, and other nations in Asia, Africa, and the Americas, are quickly preparing their own initiatives for transitioning into the new economic paradigm. The Third Industrial Revolution is an insider’s account of the next great economic era, including a look into the personalities and players — heads of state, global CEOs, social entrepreneurs, and NGOs — who are pioneering its implementation around the world. |

Green Industrial Applications of Ionic Liquids $253.31 This book is entirely devoted to research in the area of ionic liquids, which are salts with melting points below 100 C. It explores the promise of ionic liquids and sets the research agenda for the field. With a distinct bias towards actual industrial RD applications, the book is virtually a manifesto for the new age of Green Chemistry. The major industrial challenges to sustainability the books leitmotiv are: reducing water use; increasing energy efficiency; reducing reliance of fossil fuel feedstocks; increasing use of renewables; including sustainability as a major economic criterion. Thereafter, the book goes on to consider precisely where ionic liquids can help in achieving this new vision, via new techniques, new processes, new reactions. The Safety/Health/Environment properties of the ionic liquids are also considered. Finally, it is clear that there needs to be a major increase in the number of workers studying ionic liquids if this promise of a new Green Chemistry is to be achieved. Losing Time: The Industrial Policy Debate $52.65 Japan has had one since before the Pacific War. Germany has always had one. Britain has had one after another. Shouldnt the United States get one?Though hotly debated throughout the 1980s, this was the wrong question, leading to years of delay and confusion. The United States already had an Industrial Policy, said Otis Graham, but one which was uncoordinated and often harmful. This policy morass, which continued in the 1990s under George Bush despite the erosion of Americas competitive position, owes much to a misunderstood history of government economic policy. Elements of both parties, but especially Reagan Republicans, have obscured our real choices with historical myths. What should the United States have done when the nation saw its industries rapidly becoming globally uncompetitive? What reforms do we need now, asks Graham, to redirect our public policies for competitive strength? Industrial policy reform is an important part of a publicprivate set of remedies, but it hinges upon an improved use of policy history and of historical perspective generally. He proposes an explicit if minimalist approach by the federal government that would pull together and reform our de facto industrial policies in order to equip the United States with the institutional capacity to formulate industrial interventions guided by continuous learning, strategic vision, and bipartisan participation by both labor and management. Losing Time is important reading for policymakers, community leaders, academics involved in public policy, economics, and history, and readers generally concerned about their future. Author: Graham, Otis L., Jr. Series Title: Twentieth Century Fund Books/Reports/Studies Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 384 Publication Date: 1994/01/01 Language: English Dimensions: 9.05 x 6.09 x 1.05 inches |
