Evolis Dualys3 Card Printer Offers Adaptability and Affordability
The Dualys3 is a full color, dual sided printer that retails for well under $3,000. Discounted specials from ID printer distributors can cut this price even more, bringing it within range for many small to midsized businesses. This makes it possible for card issuers to double the amount of information printed on each card while paying only slightly more than the cost of a single sided unit.
Such dual sided designs print full color ribbon panels on the front and monochrome on the reverse. This set up is ideal for printing extra informational text on the back of each badge. For example, medical insurance cards can be issued with patient ID and group # on one side. The other side could feature the benefits verification phone number, the address for mailing claims, and mail-in pharmacy contact information. Educational environments can use the extra space for printing personalized class schedules for students, etc.
This Evolis card printer is compatible with a wide range of ribbon types. Scratch-off ribbons are a popular choice for obscuring pin numbers on gift and phone cards. The eMedia package is a Windows compatible program which offers badge templates and database connectivity for basic ID creation. The printer itself can be used with operating systems such as Linux and MAC. Evolis is the only manufacturer currently offering this interoperability feature in its print drivers.
Encoding capabilities can be factory installed on this Evolis printer to accommodate read/write magnetic stripe card solutions. These meet both ISO and JIS2 standards making them accessible to a broad client base in North America, Europe, and Japan. Modules that handle smart chip devices can also be added for personal computer smart cards (PC/SC). These are popular options for secure logon and encrypted data transfer. Proximity cards for access control and e-purse applications can be created using such programs as DesFire and HID iClass. Other versions of contact/contactless stations can be requested as well.
Even with its impressive speed and advanced technological capabilities, the Evolis Dualys is still easy to operate. It can be fitted with a carrying case and manual card feeder making it suitable for off-site use. Personalizing cards “while you wait” is one way to impress customers at trade shows and other events. Continuous tone dye sublimation printing covers the surface from edge to edge for optimal results. The finished product is an attractive and durable full color card.
