Am I the only one who has trouble driving with vari-focal glasses?

I wear vari-focal lenses and last year I reversed out of my drive straight into my sons car. I didn’t even see the thing. It had been snowing and the car is bright red. I bumped it 6″ over a snow rut. It was only then that I realised the extent of the blind spot vari-focals give. I then realised that at junctions I could barely focus on the oncoming traffic unless I was staring straight at it. I looked just like one of those nodding dogs! The fact that I was such a danger on the road (!) gave me such a fright that I immediately went to the Opticians and got myself a pair of single vision lenses to drive with. I am now back to my brilliant reversing skills. Am I the only one who will admit to this problem with these particular lenses?

i am aware of this problem, not with driving but with drawing i was in a art class and the model had a fairly basic shape ,it was not until i took off the varifocals that i realised the perspective was all to cock, totally wrong, now i teach art at degree level and strongly advise students not to wear them whilst drawing, so it is no surprise to me that your driving vision was affected, your judgment on distance was affected, as well as blind spot you indicated in your answer, regards LF
